I’ve written before about the world facing some of its greatest challenges and for that reason, we should never be bored. Every day, the opportunities to make change or do something different escalates, rendering that observation valid.
The boredom I refer to in this post is the every day moments where there is a pause.
My toughest contention is watching a new generation used to instant entertainment and feeling anxious when a moment presents itself that is not being filled with something. This blame isn’t put squarely on the young as older generations are being conditioned this way as well (however, they can still resist based on remembering a life without constant access).
Taking a few moments in the day as they present themselves to just observe and be present is a skill sorely needed. With rising levels of anxiety, embracing moments of boredom can teach us comfort.
Within that boredom, there is an opportunity to let the mind wander. When that happens, our imaginations can be set free while our sense of wonder can lead us to new discoveries.
Don’t fear boredom in the day – embrace it.
