Here’s what I miss about being a student:
It’s 11pm and you’re up late because… well… you’re young and sleep won’t come to you until at least 3am. Although you should be doing work, you’re bored and looking for some kind of distraction.
Personal entertainment (movies, video games, etc.) isn’t going to cut it.
That’s when you call up a friend and unless they have a paper/test/exam the next day, they’re probably in the same boat as you. They welcome the interruption.
The two of you decide to get together and head to a local coffee shop.
Everything is subdued – the rush of the day is over and the only people in here now are those winding down or on the verge of sleepwalking. For a place that’s meant to caffeinate people, it all seems calm.
The two of you begin to talk life, world issues, relationships and ambition. Tangles in your life begin to work themselves out and paths to the future seem clearer.
After a few hours, the two of you go back home and you’re still wired from the conversation. You stay up late contemplating everything that was said before finally going to bed.
For students out there, these are the moments that will linger with you. The partying will be a memory of a time past and the lessons of the classes will fade away.
Late night at the coffee shops?
They stick with you for a long time.
