Taking a hard look at ourselves is painful.
It’s the hardest thing to do because we want to protect our own image. Even when we’re hard on ourselves, we still don’t like to admit those deep-rooted issues that would shatter our own story.
The popular route over the years is to just ignore it and overwrite it with a different story. This can actually be a useful method, but it still won’t get to the heart of what you need to overwrite in the first place.
To overwrite a story, you first need to admit what’s there in the first place.
You need to admit who was wrong. Even if it was you.
Even if it’s just to yourself.
Only then are you actually being honest with yourself… which turns into honesty with others… and provide a real opportunity for growth.
It’s hard and it’s painful, but the outcome is worth it.
