How often have you heard someone tell you they’re just, “being realistic?”
A realist is a scientific approach to life. It accounts for all the facts and circumstances of a situation and makes a ruling from there.
A pessimist will tell you they’re being a realist, but only point out the negative.
For instance, a realist would identify the world right now that violence, worldwide, is at its lowest it has ever been. However, there are pockets of violence in certain regions that continue on and something must be done for the innocent people of the area.
A pessimist will dismiss the low rates of violence by describing the acts of violence still being played out in parts of the world. They will then extrapolate to the potential ticking time bomb that is in every person.
An optimist, however, will look for the hope of a situation and consider the trajectory of only good things, while minimizing the negative.
Both the realist and the pessimist want to downplay the optimist, even though it’s a handful of optimists that have changed the world.
We’ve seen what the world is like when it’s run by pessimists and realists. How would it look if it was run by an optimist instead?
