That Extra Layer of Polish

The first thing I want to do after finishing a writing project is to forget about it.

After I’m forced to do some (rather, major) editing, I quickly whip through it and try to put the project out of my mind. In my head, it’s done and there’s no reason to look at it again.

However, taking a critical stance on my own work is necessary. It elevates it to a level that makes it sing.

It shows that I care — not only about my work, but about those who will see it.

Adding an extra layer of polish is what separates the good from the memorable. Maybe not to others, but to at least yourself.
