That’s Beneath Me

Overheard from my office:

“I don’t want our prank to be something messy the custodians will have to clean up. That’s not fair to them.”

The yearly tradition of a senior prank is always concerning, but to hear this bit of conversation is gratifying. For generations, our species has been running a race to the top, being dismissive of the people “below.”

To hear from students that they are being considerate of the people that are often ignored is showing progress for the world we’re moving towards.

Could this finally be a step towards a world where we no longer dismiss something because it’s “beneath us?”

I hope so.
