That’s What Everyone is Doing

Our childhood years are marked by imagination and feeling special because we’re doing things “our way.”

During our teenage years, we often work hard to stray from what everyone else is doing as we find our own identity. However, part of us wants to fit in and we start to acquiesce to the groups that we feel is our tribe. During this time, we rebel against the norm.

We grew up learning that just because others are doing it, doesn’t mean we have to as well.

Yet, when it comes to doing work that matters… our art… or our craft… why do we keep looking to see what others are doing?

Why do we have a need to follow the lead of others?

Why can’t we forge our own path?

Maybe it’s time we revisit our childhood to re-learn that lesson about doing it because everyone else is doing it as well.
