The Backup Plan

Recently, a tornado touched down just north of where I live. Between the power surges, high winds and torrential rainfall, there were the sounds of sirens for hours.

This area is no stranger to high wind storms and certainly not surprised by tornado warnings. However, no one actually expects the worst to happen.

The community responded in kind to all those who were displaced, offering supplies, food and even their homes. Seeing that is always uplifting to the human spirit, knowing that no matter who you are, there are others ready to support you.

But what’s next?

People will still be without homes and they’re going to have to make some decisions. In the midst of emotional turmoil and stress, you can only hope to make the best decision possible.

As morbid as it may sound, the decisions for the worst should be planned out in advance. That way, in case it does happen, it’s one less thing to have to think about.

This shouldn’t just go for those who are affected, but also for those who have the means to help.
