Skeletons in our closet pale in comparison to the demons we face every day.
We can show the world our skeletons by shedding light on them and admitting to their existence. We can boast about the pains of keeping them around and the need to expunge them from our existence.
We cannot get rid of the demons we face every day with such ease.
For one, we do not like to admit they exist. It’s easier to relegate these demons to some minor inconvenience that we struggle with from time to time, but is easily overcome by our own willpower. This is nothing more than our own ignorance placating our need for self-preservation.
We ignore them, hoping they will go away, but they seep out at the edges and overtake us in the smallest moments of our weakness.
We rationalize their existence, comparing it to others who do not seem to be fazed by the same possessions. That, or we compare it to those who are in a worse situation and feel elated about our own.
It gnaws away at us and prevents us from a fulfilled life because we feel shame.
The only way to stop a demon is to name it, then tell someone that name. When others start looking out for you, they will see what you’ve really been trying to hide.
Then, you’ll be ready to face the demons inside and cast them out for good.
