The Guilt When We Rest

There’s so much work to get done in our lives that taking a moment for ourselves can feel like a guilt-ridden ordeal.

Even the holidays we look forward to can feel anxious because of the work we want to get done during that time. Then, when it doesn’t get accomplished, we feel awful.

We ask what more could we have done?

In today’s world, doing nothing is incredibly hard. When we’re sitting down to read, enjoying a beverage with a friend or just sitting there, the subconscious part of your brain is firing on all cylinders telling you everything else that you could be doing.

It’s constantly pinging you with ideas of what you could be accomplishing, what you’ve done in the past and what you could be doing in the future. In other words, it’s making you feel guilty about enjoying the moment.

Learn to relax.

Train yourself to enjoy those off-moments of rest. Learn how to tell yourself that taking time for rest is not only needed, but necessary.

Once you can do that, you will not only lose the guilt when you’re resting… you’ll actually feel rested.
