There’s a narrative flowing through society that says this:
Do what you’re told, fit in and you will be happy with the results.
The irony is that once you follow that narrative, it changes into telling you that you’re not good enough. Now all you need is a little bit more and then you will be happy.
Of course, the narrative wasn’t really ours to begin with and rather than face the certain truth we followed a misguided path (not always necessarily a wrong one), we’ll do everything we can to protect that narrative. We justify our decisions and give reasons for all that has come into fruition.
What if, however, the narrative changed in a different way?
The only thing life has promised you is a beginning and an end. Everything that comes in-between is the result of circumstance, then effort (in that order). Therefore, we take joy in what we have and act fearlessly in making efforts towards making our mark.
However, if we don’t make a great impact on the world, but live fully in everything we do, we’ve lived the best possible life.
If we can follow that narrative, there is nothing to protect – just share.
