To Get Outside Yourself

There’s an entire world outside of ourselves.

It’s a hard idea to muster when there’s a lot going in life, or when everything is filtered through our own experience.

We are constantly taking the world in, merging it with our own ideas and making judgments upon it. Everything succumbs to a single reference point: us.

This gets us locked in our head, unable to escape and see the entire world for what it is, has been, or could be. With the vast strife and pain, there’s immeasurable beauty to be had. It’s also the reason an Academy Award winning movie about beauty was sparked by watching a plastic bag dancing in the wind.

To make the jump out of our minds is to force ourselves to make an observation in the day. See the world as a curious observer.

At the start of the day, ask yourself if you were to relive this day again, what would you pay attention to?

At the end of the day, consider what you noticed today that you didn’t notice yesterday.

It’s amazing how much we see.
