Trust the Next Sentence

I was struck by this post the other day from Dean Wesley Smith about the pathological need for ideas. There is a line in there about a need to know what’s coming down the line:

“When that fear and drug-like need to know what happens next hits you, ignore the desire to figure things out and trust your creative voice and write the next sentence.”

More than just writing, I see this as a call for our own lives. How often do we want to know what happens next?

How often do we envision what we see next happening and get stressed out about whether we’ll make it there?

Big plans, big goals, life plans, dream walls, dream journals, accountability trackers… all good to have… but mean nothing if you can’t trust yourself to get there.

The next step may not be laid out in a way that gives a clear vision of where it may lead. However, we have to be willing to trust ourselves and take it anyway.
