The rate of change is accelerating as we veer towards the end of the first quarter of this century. While some may be concerned at the speed of which things are happening, adaptability will still be required.
To completely ignore it is to merely purposeful ignorance… which some do wish to partake in.
However, what new world are we really entering into?
As a lover of science fiction, the common angle is dystopia. Whatever humans did, it was a catastrophe beyond measure.
Yet, here we are in a world where heart disease is the number one killer, violence is at an all-time low (as is poverty and hunger) and certain killer diseases have been eradicated while others are now treatable.
The stats don’t lie – we’re way better off than just fifty years ago.
Our new world isn’t marked by one that culminates in disaster (let’s not rule it out completely – people are still prone to do stupid things), but astronomical moonshot ideas that are working.
Consider the ideas coming from the labs of research facilities around the world. If even a fraction of them come to market, our lives will be changed in ways we can’t even imagine. There’s little chance of it happening, but the people behind the scenes keep at it and keep thinking exponentially bigger.
Alongside all of this is an even larger movement of those who are rediscovering our roots as a species. The surge of interest in ancient spiritual practices, diets, hands-on skills and exercise regimes is balancing the rush to a virtual reality.
People still want something real and they want something better for everyone.
If that’s our brave new world, I’m happy to be a part of it.
