What I Learned From Being a Magician

I officially retired from magic.

It was a wonderful time in my life and I learned a lot along the way:

A successful magician has to be technically proficient and engaging with their audience. Missing one of those elements makes you forgettable.

Not everyone loves being fooled, but they like magic. Good magic isn’t a puzzle to figure out.

There are some who just don’t like magic at all.

Only a few acts and routines are original. Most, even those on major television productions, are bought or stolen.

The best acts today are the original ones.

It takes years of work to master a few minutes of a routine. To a magician, this is worth it.

What you see on T.V. can’t always be replicated in real life.

Magicians are a supportive group… even if they constantly lie to each other.

On that note, magicians do lie often.

Magic can break barriers, culture and language.

Teenagers love good magic.

Very few magicians are good at comedy.

It’s a profession where you get paid to play and it’s worth pursuing just to see the joy on people’s faces.
