When It Means Something, It Sticks

Trying to get people to care about something you love is a daunting task. As an ardent student of mysticism and contemplative life, getting others to see its beauty is frustrating at best.

Although we wouldn’t have the technology available to us today without Math, getting students to appreciate the subject beyond memorizing formulas doesn’t happen (rarely?). There’s no connection between what they’re studying and how it affects their life.

This goes with many other subjects in school and topics we read/see everyday in life. Without meaning, we may understand its importance, but it won’t stick with us.

If it doesn’t stick, we stop caring.

Nothing gets done.

Before we can ever get others to care, we need to make sure what we’re talking about gives meaning to them because it’s not enough to talk about our own life. Our story can be the foundation, but it needs to bring others in.

Otherwise, your message will be heard and quickly ignored.
