Endless Shallows and the Need for a Deep End

There is an excitement that reverberates throughout my conscious self when somebody posts a long, thought-provoking article in my social media feeds.

It breaks the frustration and disappointment of the endless hours wasted on the mindless clicking of shallow content.

Finally, I think to myself, another person who isn’t swayed by the need to find out, “The One Secret that Will Extend Your Life.” A pointless venture that will conclude with a simple response padded with partial research whose sources are dubious at best.

An article with real depth.

Somebody who cared enough to think deeply and respond richly. An article worthy of conversation and gets us away from nodding our heads and clicking on the next fish hook.

There is a thrill while reading it, knowing others are willing to penetrate the depths it has opened up.

Sadly, there is still disappointment as others merely look at the headline and click, ‘Like’ without taking any care for the work.

I feel frustration at those commenting who start with, “I didn’t read it, but…”

However, there is an elation and optimism inside that feels we’re growing tired of the shallow content being spoon-fed to us.

We’re tired of only wading in the shallow end of the pool.

There is a deep end where greater potential can be achieved. It’s open to anyone if they are willing to learn how to swim.

A pool that is only shallow is limiting. It’s time we demand more.
