My Favourite Mistake

Our mistakes are what wake us up in the middle of the night, curled up and shaking in regret.

Even if committed decades ago, there’s still something about them to which our minds won’t let go. Some we forgive and forget, ultimately becoming crumbs of memories to which we no longer pay attention.

Others become our favourites.

Not because we enjoy them, or think of them as fondly as the great memories we share with others, but like the bookmarks of our browser, we give them a permanent place.

Being able to let go of our mistakes involves forgiving yourself and then detaching from them.

Yes we can learn from them… and teach from them… but when they hit our favourites list, we’re no longer in control.
